Featured Technique of the Month
Technique Description: NoGi Arm Lock from Guard
Description: Starting from the guard position, begin by securing your opponent’s wrist with a strong grip, making sure your knuckles are turned upward. With your other arm, wrap your hand around the inside of your own elbow, keeping your elbows tight against your body for maximum control.
Next, place your feet on your opponent’s hips and walk your shoulders back, creating distance and causing your opponent to stretch out and fall forward. As they extend, focus on the arm you've targeted, keeping it fully extended.
Now, take your leg on the outside of the targeted arm and drive your shin across their throat. Be sure to keep your toes pointed to avoid leaving your foot vulnerable to a lock. With your shin in place, push your knee into their elbow while swiveling your shoulders away from your opponent to apply pressure.
This technique applies significant force on the arm, making it highly effective but also potentially dangerous. Be cautious when training this move, as it’s a breaking submission that can cause permanent damage to your opponent’s arm if not executed with care.

This Month's Spotlight: James Turner
About: James Turner is 14 years old and has been training in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu since he was seven. Currently a 2nd degree orange/white belt, James has participated in 20 competitions and impressively won 18 gold medals at various belt levels. He often volunteers to lead warm-ups and assist in teaching youth classes. His dedication is evident as he regularly attends Jr. Grapplers classes, Competition Team classes, Adult classes, and Open Mats. James’ favorite submission in BJJ is the Americana, so keep an eye out for this technique whenever you roll with him!
James is a shining example for others. He demonstrates success both on and off the mats, always with a smile on his face. He trains hard, asks questions, and maintains an open mind, always eager to learn. James is consistently helping others, embodying the spirit of our community. He is growing into a fine young adult, and we’re proud to have him as part of our academy.
